Aragon, setting of the 2003 Fly Fishing World Cup

In 2003, Aragon has been the setting of the Fly Fishing World Cup. The French team won, the Belgians and Spanish were in good position, and an American named Jeff Courier got an excellent rank as well. Gourmetfly.com has been handling this destination for a long time and is proud to offer very attractive guided packages in these valleys. The charm of this mountain part of Aragon is based on beautiful nature and peaceful villages. The lower valley, and the access road from Pamplona offer unforgettable curiosities like the Monasterio de Leyre, the pilgrims to Santiago in Puente la Reina, or the Hoz de Lumbier.

Season

The best fishing period in the year should be from May to mid-July, but August and September offer excellent days as well.

Equipment

You will be fishing for brown trout only. Any travel rod for trout can be used. The main fishing is on dry flies & heavy bead headed nymphs. The access to the rivers is not really difficult but the boulders can be very slippery and waders with felt soles are required.

Around the Monte perdido

On a self guided basis only, the traveling angler can also try in Aragon the beautiful rivers Cinca & Ara and their tributaries near the national park of Ordesa and Monte Perdido. This area is roughly situated around the town of Ainsa. It is an amazing region of forgotten hamlets, impressive valleys and great rivers. Now we're also at the foot of the really high Pyrenees.

Season

Because the mountains are higher there is more snow in the winter and runoff in the spring between April and June. During runoff it is most often possible to find fishable stretches, but the best fishing period in the year should be from mid or late June to mid-July and in September. In Aragon, September offers excellent fishing on the restricted access no-kill stretches named cotos.

Fishing packages

We can package your holiday around a quaint mountain inn with excellent restaurant or an impressive but affordable "parador". The  fishing costs are moderate. We can try to hire a guide for you, but he would be coming from another valley and it is not always guaranteed that he could come.
